April Zay

April has been creating art in one form or another since the age of three and, by third grade, she had determined her career path—that of an artist.

Unknowingly contributing to this, April’s family moved often while she was growing up and her artwork reflects the various inspirations of different locales, including the creativity of places like New Mexico. Her work is a cultural blend of the colors and customs native to these areas, swirled together like the colors of a palette.

April loves painting, and her signature is paintings that have a translucent glow!
This unique style results from layering thin applications of color when she paints in oil on masonite, canvas and watercolor paper.

Having earned a BFA in illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, April has worked as a graphic designer, designing high-end packaging for Lenox and Gorham. She has also collaborated on packaging for many companies including Macy’s and Kate Spade.

Although she is a graphic designer, photographer, and painter, her greatest joy is sharing her knowledge and love of art through teaching, especially inspiring children’s creativity.
